Telescopic pool enclosure: enjoy your pool all year round

6 December 2021

Did you know that you canuse your pool two to three times longer with the right protection system? This is made possible by telescopic shelters. Their purpose is to keep your water warm and clean, as well as making your pool safe all year round. How does it work? What are the prices? We explain everything in this article.

In cooler weather: a telescopic structure for a sheltered pool

A covered pool

The word “telescopic” may conjure up images of something complex and nebulous, but it’s not! In fact, it’s a very simple system (but, as always, one you should have thought of!). A telescopic enclosure is a small, retractable veranda for your pool.

Thanks to its sliding modules, it can be retracted easily and safely, alone or in pairs. This way, you can cover and open your pool as you like, and swim no matter how good or bad the weather. Thanks to the shelter’s retractable roof and side walls, you’re protected from rain and wind.

But not an indoor pool

It’s important not to confuse a telescopic enclosure with an indoor pool. As the shelter is a retractable veranda, it does not require planning permission or the intervention of an architect (provided that it does not exceed 3.5 m in height, 75m2 in surface area and is located at least 3m from adjoining boundaries).

This is not the case for indoor pools, which are an extension to the house and therefore require more extensive work. As a result, thethermal insulation of a pool enclosure will be less effective. However, they are designed with materials and configurations designed to retain heat. How? Thanks to thegreenhouse effect.

Heating savings

By capturing heat, telescopic pool enclosures can raise water temperature by 1 to 2 degrees a day. So water that’s 17 degrees in April will easily reach 25 degrees after a few days in the sun. All you need to do is apply a little heat to obtain the extra 3 or 4 degrees for total comfort.

In short, you get to use your pool for much longer, because you’re not dependent on the weather. What’s more, you save energy thanks to the greenhouse effect. The icing on the cake? Let’s face it, no one likes to get out of a pool shivering. With thetelescopic shelter, the ambient air is warmed up, giving you a good thermal balance.

In the hot season: a cool, safe pool with a telescopic cover

A semi-covered or outdoor pool

The great thing about a telescopic pool enclosure is that you can open it as wide or as narrow as you like. It allows progressive adjustment so you can manage the intensity of ventilation inside. If it starts to get hot, simply create an opening in the shelter. The sun is shining and you want to make the most of it? Retract the modules completely.

Note that it is generally possible to install solar awnings on your pool veranda. They work like a parasol, reducing the greenhouse effect and protecting you from UV rays. But a telescopic shelter has even more advantages.

Safety around your pool

I don’t need to remind you that a swimming pool requires maintenance, whether it’s dust or insects that accidentally take a dip. Installing a pool enclosure not only saves you time, it also saves you money in terms of maintenance.

What’s more, and this is one of its main advantages, it offers a completely safe space when your children are playing in the garden. Locked, it is inaccessible, reducing the risk of drowning.

Height of telescopic pool enclosures

Whether you want to enjoy your pond all year round may also determine the height of the enclosure to be installed. Several sizes are available to suit your requirements. Would you like simple pool protection that doesn’t obstruct your view? Do you want to be able to move around the pool easily, or even install a real relaxation area or sports equipment ?

Your choice will depend on how you intend to use the shelter, the configuration of your plot and aesthetic criteria. At VERANDAIR (formerly Pool Cover), we offer a range oflow, medium and highpool enclosures. You’ll benefit from a personalized project, at excellent value for money.

The price of a pool enclosure

Of course, the price of a pool enclosure depends on a number of factors, including its size, height and the quality of the materials used. So, the higher the shelter, the larger its floor area, since you’ll need to be able to move around inside it. So, while the cost per square meter is virtually identical, the ground dimensions will be a little larger in the case of a high shelter.

At VERANDAIR, we have opted for aluminum structures. As well as offering a design that blends in with any style, this material offers excellent resistance and ease of maintenance. From the lowest to the highest, all our shelters are designed to withstand layers of snow and the vagaries of the weather. That’s why we offer a 15-year warranty.
