Why choose a bioclimatic pergola in Belgium?

23 March 2021

More and more bioclimatic pergolas are springing up in the gardens and terraces of Belgian homes. Whether freestanding or leaning against the facades of houses, these open shelters seem to be attracting interest from many families. At a time when the garden is once again taking pride of place in the life of the home, it’s only natural to want to make the most of all it has to offer. Let’s discover the advantages of having a bioclimatic pergola in Belgium.

The bioclimatic pergola to enjoy your garden in every season

Belgium is a beautiful country. We are fortunate to live in a region with an eclectic landscape, where life is good all year round. Unfortunately, periods when the weather is just right for enjoying a relaxing moment outdoors are not that common. Just like in the north of France or in Luxembourg, to enjoy your garden, it’s often either a little too cold, too rainy or too hot. Over the past few summers, we’ve been experiencing waves of very hot weather, making it very hard to stay in the sun.

For these and other reasons
the
bioclimatic pergolas
are becoming increasingly popular in Belgian homes. It has to be said that the choice is a judicious one! In addition to adding character to your property, this pergola on your terrace adapts to the weather. It has a roof with adjustable slats, and can also be fitted with side walls or retractable awnings. This way, you get protection from the rain by closing the roof slats, and from the wind by unfolding the side walls. The temperature under your pergola is also milder when it’s cold outside. And when it gets too hot, the open slats provide natural ventilation and protection from the sun’s rays.

An ideal compromise between veranda and terrace

There’s no denying it, a veranda is a real asset to any home. A real additional living space, it offers you the space and comfort of a bright area with a view of the outside. What’s more, thanks to VERANDAIR’s retractable veranda solution, you can also open them to enjoy your terrace in fine weather. But the space you have available, the configuration of your grounds or even your budget don’t always allow you to acquire such a structure. In such cases, choosing a pergola offers many advantages.

Pergolas, especially bioclimatic ones, are available in virtually any size. As a made-to-measure solution, you can choose the length and height of your pergola to best fit your space. It can be installed anywhere, leaning against your house or as a self-supporting structure, in the middle of your garden or next to your pool, covering your entire terrace or just part of it – anything is possible! Of course, bioclimatic pergolas are also less expensive than verandas, and don’t serve the same purpose. In fact, a pergola doesn’t represent additional living space as we understand it, but offers you the means to increase the amount of time spent in your garden and improve its comfort.

Pergolas that are easy to install and maintain

One of the other great advantages of a bioclimatic pergola is its ease of installation. With VERANDAIR, it only takes a few hours for our workers to provide you with your own covered garden space. Some brands even offer low-cost kit solutions that you can build yourself. We don’t recommend this approach (although it’s quick and easy, installing a bioclimatic pergola requires professional know-how to guarantee the quality of the shelter), but buying a pergola in kit form can be an option if you’re on a very tight budget.

Then, for many years to come, you can enjoy your pergola with a minimum of maintenance. Aluminum shelters like the ones we offer are highly weather-resistant. They don’t need to be repainted, and a quick wipe with a cloth from time to time is all that’s needed to remove dirt, streaks and dust. And as your pergola is installed directly on your terrace or in your garden, its floor requires no special maintenance either. On the contrary, it is better protected than if it were not covered. So, as you usually do for your terrace, you can sweep away the leaves and, if you wish, occasionally clean the floor with a high-pressure cleaner to give it a new shine.

Numerous customization options for your pergola

A bioclimatic pergola can be built from a variety of materials, such as wood, pvc or aluminum. We have chosen aluminum as the structural material for all the shelters in our range. Solid, lightweight and easy to maintain, we believe it’s the most durable solution and offers the best value for money.

Depending on your tastes, the style of your home and the look you want to give your garden, you can also choose from a wide range of colors, including all RAL colors. What’s more, with aluminum, the color is just like the one you choose from the catalog, and it won’t fade over time.

Finally, you can choose from a range of options for your bioclimatic pergola: roof with adjustable slats or retractable canvas, roller blinds on the sides, LED lights for added comfort, etc.
